A guided tour in the ‘Biotopoi’ Nature park is to experience a world of colours and scents, a time to stimulate the senses and enjoy the nature that Crete offers in abundance.
After our welcome at the reception the tour begins. Your visit is an interactive process of exploration with the guidance of one of our volunteers, who will explain how the park has been developed as a natural ecosystem and will take you through the separate yet integrated areas within the park…. Such as the Cretan herbs and plants, the insects and the reptiles for whom the park is home!
You will meet the rabbits and chickens, visit the snake house, learn a little about the geology and fossils to be found in the park… And more!
In the skies above the park can be seen the wild birds, the Eagles, Hawks and in the evening; owls, one particular Eagle was nursed back to health in the park and returned to its natural place but chooses to live nearby and graces the park with her presence.
The visit is a gentle reminder that we can live with balance between our daily lives and that of nature while respecting the ecosystems.
The duration of the visit takes approximately forty minutes, you can if you choose to do so, take a walk through the gorge by the park with its spectacular views over looking the city of rethymno and in the other direction the hills behind.
We also have a small kiosk ‘shop’ with local produce available to buy…. And the beautifully scented herbs we grow can be purchased and enjoyed in your home, a culinary reminder of your time here.
There is also a cafe within the park, here you can sit and enjoy a cold beer while enjoying the stunning vista of Rethymno and its turquoise ocean.
A children’s park is available as well as additional outdoor sports facilities.
Opening hours are: daily 10:00 – 14:00 and 18:00 – 22:00 during the Summer months
Autumn and Spring; 10:00 – 18:00
